Service water corrosion problems in both the nuclear and fossil fuel plants have been related to both water quality and Microbiological Induced Corrosion (MIC). Investigation of water quality, operating conditions, and effective monitoring are necessary to identify the principle causes for pitting of both mild steel and stainless steel. Case histories illustrate this investigation and causes. Various corrective measures are provided along with support data.
