As a way of maintaining the zero liquid discharge at cooling water treatment, polymeric flocculants have been used along with other chemicals in reactor-type clarifier. A properly designed polymer feed system is the key for achieving superior performance and cost-effective solid-liquid separation. This presentation illustrates how to prepare more efficient polymer solutions based on the knowledge of fluid dynamics and polymer chemistry. It includes an extensive review of papers on the relevant subject. Results of various laboratory testing and field evaluation are followed regarding the effect of dilution water chemistry and different mixing technologies on the effectiveness of polymer solution.
